Each organization is unique in its own accord and its overall design depends on two main criteria; coordination and communication. No matter what structure an organization chooses, the ultimate result is to achieve coordination between units and communicate effectively for proper decision making and implementation. The current buzz word being the networked economy and organizations, many firms are becoming more sophisticated and evolving into more interconnected entities than ever before. It is important however to note that not one single structure is the most successful one. A firms arrival at a decision to adopt a certain structure entails careful analysis of the requirements of the industry it operates in. Then only can it decide which structure suits it best. Dell, based in the US, is a truly global organization. With lead times of delivery ranging in days across the globe, Dell had no choice but to adapt a structure which complimented its nimble and lean supply chain. This resulted in them adopting a networked structure as opposed to more traditional functional setup. The main criterion is not coordination here, but the proper channels of communication which are necessary to deliver information is the cheapest, fastest and most reliable way. Moreover, product life cycles of Dell are shorter than most other products and this again meant a quick supply chain backed by the most efficient communications strategy. Dell has been able to adopt this structure quicker and has grown to an extent which many never expected it to achieve (Sviokla, 2004). Dell does have departments and functions like any other organizations; it’s the method by which they operate which is different. Each function is coordinated and communicates to achieve one primary goal; deliver the good to the customer in the shortest time possible. By having a networked organization, information travels at nearly the speed of light and decisions are thus made in a shorter time. This is what Dell required to stay on top of its competition in the PC industry and thus, it adopted the best possible structure within the industry. Toyota, based in Japan, is a name of reliability. Their automobiles are well known for cost effectiveness and long life. All this was only achieved by the top notch structure that Toyota eventually evolved into over its long history. The work at Toyota is done by divisions; teams of individuals in each ‘function’ operating on assembly lines to produce cars. This along with a just in time inventory approach has enabled Toyota to become a truly global automobile maker and trendsetter in the industry. Till Toyota adopted it, JIT was something that many, especially in the automobile industry, wouldn’t dare to emulate. Toyota realized how its inventory, being huge and with long lead times would clog up work space and result in huge costs due to rental, obsolescence etc. Thus Toyota did what Dell did but in a different manner, let the supplier remain the owner of the materials until they are needed. This called for not just a good communications setup but an exceptional coordinated effort by the firms various functions as well. A delay in one function meant a halt in the whole firm as each is dependent on the other. Thus Toyota needed a structure which was stable, coordinated and yet, able to communicate well with its suppliers as well as dealers. This came in the form of an organization which was capable of dissipating knowledge throughout its firm effectively and acts upon decisions made quickly (Choo, 2002). In every state, eighteen-year olds are legally permitted to drive, live as they choose, and work where they choose. Eighteen-year olds pay taxes as other adults do, are subject to all criminal and civil laws, and are punished, jailed and even executed for crimes they might commit against such laws. They are also permitted to hold most local, state and federal government public offices, and can sponsor and pass new laws if elected. Again, the only exception to complete adult rights is a prohibition against an eighteen-year old buying or enjoying a beer or other type of alcoholic beverage anywhere in the United States. Many countries elsewhere throughout the world have lower drinking ages or no age limitation or prohibition at all on consumption of alcoholic beverages. Interestingly, these countries likewise have lower incidences of abuse, lower death rates in automobile accidents, and lower arrest rates for alcohol-related offenses than in the US. Both Canada and Mexico, as examples, have legal 18-year old drinking age laws, and have abuse indices well below those in the US. Likewise, the Italians, Chinese, German, Austrian, and French have for years allowed for younger adults to purchase and consume alcohol. Pg. 12 â€Å"per'aps if we keep them till they're ransomed, it means that we keep them till they're dead.† When Huck Finn sneaks out to go play with Tom Sawyer and all their other friends, they decide to form a gang of robbers. They decide to hold people ransom, except they don’t really know what ransom is, so Tom just comes up with a meaning to the word that he thinks sounds about right. All of the boys in the gang agree. I think this quote fits in with the theme of the book â€Å"satire of society.† While the meaning of the word ransom may not be a crucial topic, the concept that I think Mark Twain is trying to illustrate is that if one person says something everyone will follow. The boys have no way of knowing what the real meaning of ransom is, so they just blindly go along with whatever Tom suggests, and that is one of the biggest downfalls of society, even today.

August 1957: Melba’s father received a phone call saying that melba had been assigned to go to Central High School. Her mother and Grandmother India were not happy. They had no idea that she had signed up for this. As adults they were knew more of what could happen. Even thought her mother and grandmother tried to make her see things, melba knew there was a better life out there. She thought she could make a difference September 4, 1957: Melba was going to Central High School, at least she thought she was. Nobody expected what took place that day. The crowds and the riots were unbelievable. As Melba and he mother tried to get close to the school, they knew the danger would be great. None of the 9 black students attend Central High School that day. But what example was this setting for Melba’s. Melba’s mother wrote an article and called the newspapers. She did what she had to do let people know. She got her job back. September 1958: Little Rock schools were closed. What was supposed to be my senior year was not. Everyone waited for the courts to reopen Central High. September 1959: The NAACP had sent out announcements asking for families that would volunteer to give safety and to help with finish our education. Melba went to Dr George McCade and family. Raveloe was a small, sleepy village tucked far away from the advancing industrial revolution. Raveloe lay low among the bushy trees and the rutted lanes, aloof from the currents of industrial energy The inhabitants of the village led simple lives and were all traditionally church going. They were highly suspicious of strangers, particularly those from different parts of the country. This reflects the fact that travel was inevitably slower and more arduous than it is today, and any traveller would have been seen as though almost from a different country. Even though Silas and Godfrey have seemingly nothing in common, leading two very different lives separated by a large gulf in class, they are both linked together by the power of gold, in the literal and symbolic sense. By the end of the novel their paths have intertwined. The book starts with Silas very much alone, his faith in mankind and God shattered. Poor Marner went out with despair in his soul that shakes trust in man and God, which is little short of madness to a loving nature George Eliot describes Silas as honest and simple and says he is a good man. He lives within a religious sect in a convent called Lantern Yard in a large soon to be industrialised northern town. When his friend of many years at the sect, William Dane, betrays him by falsely accusing him of the theft of gold, Silas is crushed. At the base of Silass problems throughout the book is gold. He leaves the sect a broken man, a deep distrust of mankind firmly rooted in him. Marner previously lived in lantern yard, an area within a large town, and led a life of charity and he gave a large proportion of his money to objects of piety and charity. However, Silas Marner has no faith when in Raveloe due to the events in Lantern Yard and gives no money to money to charity, therefore, his money builds up to a heap. The events in Lantern Yard which forced Silas Marner into isolation, involved the death of the Deacon, by illness. Unfortunately Marner had been watching over his deathbed and had been arrested by an attack of his catalepsy, which is seen as a spiritual vision of some sort in Lantern Yard but is viewed with suspicion in Raveloe. While this was happening, Marners best friend William Dane steals the Deacons money with Marners knife to frame him it works and the whole thing is blamed on Marner. When he arrives in Raveloe he avoids all the folk of the town because he thought that the reason he was blamed for the theft of the Deacons money was due to his own fault and not the greed of William Dane. While in Lantern Yard Silas Marner has a fianci e who did not seem to like him much, she always had fluctuation between efforts of regard and involuntary signs of shrinking and dislike. During his time in Raveloe, Silas Marner builds up his money in an iron pot but when this becomes too small, he makes two leather bags to put the money into. Marner always thought fondly of the guineas and he liked them the most of all his coins. This shows that after the Lantern Yard scandal he replaces the need for human contact with that of his gold. His dependence on seeing his gold is so great that he finds himself running his hands in the bright coins every night and even looking forward to doing so. Unlike Godfrey Cass, who thinks of money as a thing to be used to get people to like him, Marner dependence is what keeps him through the day. After the theft of the gold Marner is shocked and desolated, for the gold had been keeping him through the day and he had now no person or object to focus his affections on. When Marner discovers that his gold has been stolen he desperately scrambles about the hole where his gold was hidden. This shows just how much he loved the gold. Godfrey Cass, on the other hand, is in debt to his Father at this time and Dunstan Cass, his no-good little brother, has a few suggestions to repay this debt because he spent the money that Godfrey Cass gave to him and so is responsible for his brothers debt. Also, Dunstan Cass has his brother wrapped around his little finger. This is due to Godfrey Cass being extremely weak willed, due to the detail that when he was brought up without a mother and so his life lacked moral teaching and discipline, therefore, he became very weak willed and was not qualified for anything. This is the reason why he uses gold to try to keep people close to him, if he did not and his father found out about his secret marriage then he would be disinherited, a thing that Godfrey was very afraid of due to his lack of skill at anything that could earn him money. Dunstans suggestions to Godfrey regarding the debt include selling Godfrey Casss horse, his only one and a symbol that he is one of the richer people in town. Another of Dunstan Casss suggestions was to rob Silas Marner and cover it up. Dunstan believes this to be a good idea because he has heard that Marner has enough money to buy up bigger men than himself and that he is very blind and so wont be able to see their faces. Eventually Godfrey gives in to his brothers suggestion and agrees for Dunstan to sell his horse in the next town. Dunstans exploits are successful in that he sells the horse to Bryce, for a hundred and twenty, presumably pounds. Unfortunately, Dunstan Cass manages to stake the horse while catching up to the hunt. This is the end of Wildfire, the horse and Godfreys easy way out of debt. However when walking past Marners cottage Dunstan sees that the door is slightly ajar and he enters for warmth, Marner is nowhere to be seen. Looking around the cottage looks normal but Dunstan Cass remembers the rumour that Silas Marner has lots of gold piled up in his house. Dunstan does find the money and sneaks away, but not before putting the bricks and sand, under which the gold lay, back in position. He then disappears into the night. The word disappears could simply suggest that he is swallowed by the darkness but the events that occur later suggest that he falls into the stone pit, which he does without the aid of his brothers whip to guide him along the dark lane, due to both his hands being full. On the eve of the New Year there is a party up at the Red House, the residence of the Cass family. At this time the woman that Godfrey Cass is married to, who is also addicted to opium, is walking through the snow with Godfrey Casss child who, apparently, looks similar to him. At one point she takes a vial of opium mixed with brandy, a common pain killer at the time, and passes out in the snow. The little child is used to being left on its own and so wanders off, the child discovers Marners cottage, the door of which is ajar due to Marner being in a fit of catalepsy whilst looking out of the door, probably in the vain hope that his gold will come back to him. When the child is discovered Marner believes it to be, first his gold and then his dead sister. After this Marner takes in the child because no one else will, not even Godfrey Cass the childs own father, and Marner feels that the child will help him. She is named Eppie, after Marners sister and her hair has golden curls. This is what let Marner to believe that she was his gold that had come back. Marner much prefers the golden curls of Eppies hair to his original gold and Eppie is what brings Marner into the community. This is because she needed to go to school and church. This also rekindled Marners faith somewhat. Eppie also teaches him to love other people and not his gold. Cass, however, still thinks that money is the answer to everything and even tries to tempt Eppie, his daughter, to come and live with him when Eppie is eighteen. This shows that Cass still just uses it to try and make people do what he wants due to his weak willed nature. Finally, gold plays a great part in the life of Silas Marner, he firstly depends on it and when it is stolen he is very grieved but he finds Eppie to focus his affection on and soon he is no longer a miser and prefers the gold of Eppies hair to money. Gold also plays a big part in the life of Godfrey Cass; he needs the money for his horse to pay off his father, in the early part of the story, but he never receives it. After this gold is only in Godfreys life to be used make people serve his wants. That is until the finding of Dunstan Casss skeleton, and Marners money, in the stone pits close to Silas Marners cottage. Of course the money is returned to Marner but Godfrey Cass cant help but think that the money was stolen for him and it cost his brother a greater price, his life. This is also the time when Godfrey tells Nancy, his wife, about his daughter and tries to buy Eppie back. In the end of the novel, Eppie gets married to Aaron Winthrop, the gardener at the Red House, and Godfrey Cass pays for the reception but does not attend, the final sign that he uses his money to maintain his reputation within the community.

An Analysis of Psychology in Art Essay

Kahlo’s painting Self Portrait with Cropped Hair (1940) and Lichtenstein’s Drowning Girl (1963) both use emotive techniques in order to convey more subtle feelings. While Lichtenstein employed a more bold look to his female subject, Kahlo uses a formal stance in her self-portrait, but both give the viewer the idea of sorrow being the center subject behind these female figures. Kahlo’s self portrait shows a woman on a chair (presumably Kahlo) with the cut pieces of her hair scattered all about her. This use of the hair being all around the main figure gives the viewer the impression of a battle – that Kahlo lost. Hair is a metaphor in the painting – a metaphor of peace or strength. In the bible the symbol of hair can be found in the story of Samson and Delilah in which Samson got his strength from his hair, and the prostitute Delilah cut it all off thereby rendering the hero useless. If then, Kahlo’s hair is her strength it is almost as though the viewer is peering on to a death sentence of the woman. The death sentence in Lichtenstein’s work is much more blatant as the drowning girl states in her bubble â€Å"I’d rather sink than call Brad for help† which coordinates this theme of desperation and sorrow. The stance of either female in their respected representations are opposite: Lichtenstein gives his subject a subdued and hopeless stance being already almost entirely submerged in the water and thereby closer to death while in Kahlo’s painting, although nearly all of her hair is spread about her in a form of defeat, the figure stands in erect position rather in a stance of having lost the battle. There is distinctly more depth present in Kahlo’s painting, with the cut hair scattered on the ground and the angles of the chair making the viewer fell as though they are peering into this event. In Lichtenstein’s work the viewer is given a close up of the woman who doesn’t allow for much depth to be viewed – but in classic Lichtenstein technique, his use of flat planes further develop this loss of field of depth. This is perhaps a metaphoric sense of depth since Kahlo’s portrait is subtle and the viewer has to read into the subject and the subtler emotions involved in the work while in Lichtenstein’s work the viewer merely has to read what the girl says in order to understand everything about the painting in one glance. With a second glance at the figure in Kahlo’s work (and with the history of her recent divorce from her unfaithful husband Diego Rivera) the viewer may guess that this cutting of the hair is symbolic of Kahlo’s state of emotions. Perhaps she is shedding the part of herself that Diego had claimed as Kahlo has said of her art, â€Å"I do not know if my paintings are Surrealist or not, but I do know that they are the most frank expression of myself. † (Kahlo). Thus, in cutting of her hair (presumably he loved long haired women) she is making a claim of self identity away from her cheating husband and thereby the painting becomes transformed into a woman losing hair, into a woman gaining her identity. The top of Kahlo’s painting even states as much in saying, â€Å"†Look, if I loved you it was because of your hair. Now that you are without hair, I don’t love you anymore. â€Å"† Lichtenstein’s portrait of a woman who is also in the bad end of love also has a small bit of this identity. She states that she would rather die than have Brad come and help her, but the viewer wonders, why doesn’t the woman try and save herself? The depth that is lacking in the field of vision with Lichtenstein’s work is replaced by a depth into personality of the woman. A psychologist might argue that the woman has an Ophelia complex (from Hamlet) in which she would rather die than live without her lover. In either instance, it is clear that both artists are trying to depict an emotional state in which love is the cause of the effects. Lichtenstein’s work is predominately innovated through DC comics (a panel of which inspired The Drowning Girl). His use of Benday dots emphasize a stylistic approach. Kahlo’s art is more surreal in nature and symbolic in style as is evident in Self Portrait with Cropped Hair. In surrealistic style, Kahlo allows the interchange of gender to play a dominate role in the painting. The figure, Kahlo herself, is dressed in men’s slacks and a shirt, thus allowing the short hair to almost define her in a masculine capacity. In Lichtenstein’s work the gender of the painting is quite clear with the woman showing attributes a helpless woman drowning in the water as well as in love. This woman relinquishes her control over her fate in a rather docile component of femininity (the viewer is reminded of the big bosomed females in horror movies who run from the monster in drastic steps only to fall in their high heels and be destroyed by their pursuer). In Kahlo’s painting, perhaps because of this gender bending idea, the woman becomes like a man, that is, able to survive, or, in comparison, she becomes the pursuer and thereby strong. In opposition to the bible story then, Kahlo does not in fact become weak in losing her hair, but rather the painting is meant to suggest that she becomes strong in this shedding of hair, and husband. In either painting it is clear that both artists are interested in the psychology of their subject. In the DC comic world by which Lichtenstein gained inspiration, women were somewhat helpless creatures in the 1960’s only gaining a feminine stance in the 1980’s or so. His vision of women through his portrait gives the viewer the idea that without love, a woman does not have an identity, and thus, death is a logical substitute to not having a ‘Brad’. In Kahlo’s painting the same may be deciphered; she allows her femininity to surround her on the ground in the form of her hair, and her transformation into a man makes her stronger. It is then interesting to note the decades which lie between either painting – it may be said that Kahlo was progressive with her painting style and her representation of women (perhaps taking note of Kate Chopin’s The Awakening in which the protagonist cannot live in a man’s world and thus drowns herself in an act of freedom). It is clear that in both artworks there are strong emotions which propel the subjects into the places they stand before the viewer. The emotional journey has come to an end in either painting or the female figures either claim their identities (in the case of Kahlo) or they become submerged in a world where they cannot live without love (in the case of Lichtenstein). One Man Two Guvnors review In a packed theatre, full of audiences from all ages who continuously have a smile on their face; currently rated as a high five stars, One Man Two Guvnors could not be a funnier performance to watch. As soon as I entered the theatre, it was completely packed. I also saw many people from different age groups; this gave me a feeling that the show would be entertaining enough to get people from all ages to come and see the show. The environment of the theatre was very formal, as there was a red and gold layout and it was also very clean.Before the show started there was country singers, this was a very good way to introduce the show as the song was very upbeat and got me feeling more excited. They were dressed in checked shirts and suits; this gave me the feeling straight away that it would be based before the 2000s, which I was right as it is set in 1963. These country singers also came in a few times during the show and sang many more lively songs which I l oved hearing and sung with my friends. The main character that stood out the most to me was the well-known actor James Cordon, whom played a failed skiffle player named Francis who is in need of a job†¦ and a meal!He gets himself in a shuffle, as working as a servant for two masters whom are currently enemies. Many words could describe Francis; funny, dopey, confused, loud, sociable, at times annoying. Not only did he make the audience laugh, he also spoke to them too! For example, asking the audience who has a sandwich, which made the audience get more involved with Francis. He also did return a sandwich and a few other treats when asked! He had also made the audience a part of the performance as he needed some volunteers to get up on stage and help him out in the jobs he had to do. Such as, lifting a trunk and needing help on food preparations.My favourite scene that made Francis impress me the most was when he had to keep his two guvnors away from each other and at the same time serve them both food, whilst they was both opposite doors away from each other in the same hotel! His greedy behaviour of taking some food out of the dishes and keeping them for himself was absolutely hilarious. This is also the scene where he chose someone from the audience to help him take some food and store it in his pot. The way parts of this scene was off script yet still so on track and funny impressed me and I laughed the most at this scene.I also thought that the staging had a big impact to the audience. There were many different scene changes that looked so realistic; the living room, the Brighton pier, the upstairs hotel in The Cricketers Arms and the street outside it. The stage was spacious enough for the actors to move around freely, I still had a clear view even though I sat at the right at the top upper circle. The lighting on stage was very bright as the scenes were mostly indoors or in daylight. The music had suited the plays environment as the music was very upbeat, lively, loud and cheerful.Many instruments were played together to make many amazing songs and sounds. The play would stop in between, the curtains would draw and each time I got more inpatient wanting another song to come. The country singers who sang the songs gave me a warm, yet energetic feeling as I and the audience were clapping along to the rhythm, not to mention singing at the chorus. If these country singers did not perform, the overall play would not have been the same! Another scene that I also enjoyed a lot would be the ending scene, where Francis’ two jobs were revealed, all problems are sorted and the truth comes out.The two love birds are finally together and it’s all just like a fairy tale. This was a good way to end the performance in a happy atmosphere. Overall, I recommend that everyone should watch this performance as they will laugh their socks off just like the rest of the audience. I would rate the play a high 4 star performance as it was a fantastic, memorable experience that definitely made my day and is worth the watch. A Summary on a Mother Essay Salam, I’m Fatin Nur Aisyah bt Kamaruzaman. Today, I want to share with you about the important person in my life. Since I was born, and until today, there are no one can replace her place in my heart. For me, she is very special. Although sometimes I make she cry, she never hate me. She never feels tired to love me. The person that loves me so much is my mother. (TUNJUK SLIDE). This is my loving mother. Her full name is Noriah bt Muda. She was born on 17 August 1959 at Kampung Paya, Marang, Terengganu. She is the middle daughter out of three siblings. On 1966, she entered a primary school at Sekolah Kebangsaan Marang. After that, she entered a secondary school at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Marang. In secondary school, she be more active and join all of the school activity. She started join the sport and became an athlete. After finished school, she learned about silat. She also entered MARA Institution for two years to learning about the handicrafts. If she has a free time, she will teach children to read Quran. When she was 22 years old, she got married with my father, Kamaruzaman Ismail. And now, after 32 years married, she has 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls. She never tired to take care of her family. Although she only a housewife, she successfully teach their children until all of them success in their life. I hope I can be like her, be a strong person, an honest person and caring about family. Even though my mother finished her school at form three, I still proud of her. I love my mom. There are the quotes that saying, â€Å"Although there are many mothers in the world, it cannot be same with our own mother† and â€Å"Although there are many delicious foods, the mom’s cooking is always the best†.
